Triple Tree Trail, with a “long hike option” available
Meeting place and time: Meet on Limestone Meadows Lane (NOT at the trailhead parking lot) and be ready to hike at 8:30 a.m.
Difficulty: Easy/Moderate
Elevation Gain: approximately 700’ to an elevation of 5,850' at the overlook
Distance: 4.5 miles, from our starting point to the overlook and back down.
Estimated Time: approximately 2 hours, depending on pace of the group and the amount of time stopping to admire views and flowers
Miscellaneous: A pretty hike, normally with lots of wildflowers. Climbs through a shady forest to a viewpoint with views of the whole valley.
Directions: Drive south on Sourdough Road to Triple Tree. As you approach Triple Tree, watch for the buck and rail fence on the left. At the end of the fence, turn left on Triple Tree Road, go 1 mile, then turn right on Limestone Meadows Lane. You’ll see an official gravel parking area on the left side of the road. If that’s full, there’s plenty of parking on the right side of the road, as well. Note: starting at this location makes the hike easier and shorter than starting at the trailhead. (If you go too far on Sourdough and see the trailhead parking lot, you’ve missed the turn.)
Long hike option: Tim Wilson will lead a group from a spot near the overlook up a faint trail to the ridge.
Distance: approximately 6.5 miles RT
Estimated Time: approximately 3 hours
Difficulty: Difficult
