#18 Home Again

Description:

A wonderful closing hole, the challenging number eighteen tests the nerves when trying to hold down a lead for the win. A long, sliding dogleg right off the tee, out of bounds runs the length of the left side of the hole and trees block the wayward shot to the right. A large, deep bunker guards the left side of the green.

#17 Deer Run

Description:

Number seventeen is a short 4 par that plays straight off the tee. A grove of large elm trees parallel the landing area on the right and a grove of mature cottonwoods can knock down balls left off the tee. A tee shot in the fairway will allow for a short iron into a sneakily undulating putting surface.

#16 Pheasant’s Call

Description:

Another short 3 par, number sixteen is guarded on the left by an irrigation canal, and right by a large cottonwood tree and a pot bunker. Shots over the green have a very real chance of ending up in the East Gallatin River 15 feet below.

#15 Duck Island

Description:

Perhaps the most talked about hole on the course, number fifteen thrives on deception. The 150 yard marker is the center of the landing zone, but an irrigation canal lurks long, left, and short, placing a premium on club selection off the tee. The approach shot is to a slightly elevated two tiered green that hides back pin placements on its lower shelf. Shots left of the green find a large, deep bunker.

Description:

Number fourteen plays long and straight. Trees line the fairway on both sides and bunkers guard the green front and back. Distance control is crucial on the approach shot.

#13 Golden Willows

Description:

At 313 yards, number thirteen is the shortest 4 par on the course, but trouble looms on all sides. The left side of this hole has out of bounds, three bunkers, a large cottonwood tree, and lateral hazard along the green. To the right is a large grove of mature willows and a bunker guards the front of the green. A tee shot to the 150 marker or slightly further will provide the best shot for an unobstructed short iron to the green.

#10 Cat Tail Pond

Description:

This straight, short 5 par looks like a great birdie opportunity to get the par 35 back nine rolling, but trouble lurks. The tight, tree-lined fairway and landing zone bunker create a challenge off the tee. “Going for it” on the second shot presents trouble with two ponds short of the green and a bunker guarding the left side of this large putting surface.

#9 Gallatin Crossing

Description:

The tee shot is the key on this picturesque, hard dogleg left. A mid-to long iron with right to left movement will cut the distance into the green. However, large cottonwoods left off the tee and nasty rough right of the landing zone make a well-placed tee ball essential to managing this hole. From the landing area, more cottonwoods push in from the left and the green is guarded right and left by large bunkers.

#8 Cutthroat Trout

Description:

Hole 8 (3 par): Hole location is the key to how number eight plays. At a deceptively short 147 yards, the green on this 3 par has a false front that falls off to the right, a large bunker that guards the front and left, and an innocuous pot bunker that swallows long tee shots. The putting surface has a gradual slope from back to front that is sneaky quick when above the hole.

#7 Spanish Peaks

Description:

The second of two 5 pars on the front nine, this subtle dogleg left presents a number of challenges. Off the tee, a small pond necessitates an accurate drive down the right side of this generous fairway. A well-struck tee shot brings into play the possibility of going for the green on the second shot. Beware! The lateral hazard gradually angles towards the green from the right while a massive bunker protects the left side of this tricky putting surface.

#6 Bobcat Lair

Description:

Number six is a long, unforgiving 3 par. With a green that falls off sharply on the right side, most hole locations will be center or left, bringing into play the large bunker that guards the entire left side. An “up and down” from this hazard is challenging and par is a good score at number six.

#5 Ponderosa Pine

Description:

The first dogleg left, number five is a challenge off the tee. Trees line the right side of the fairway, while a grove of pines protrude menacingly into the landing zone from the left. If the tee shot is successfully navigated, the green is wide open with no bunkers with which to contend.

Description:

This dogleg right appears to be an innocuous hole, but number four can turn into a struggle. Two, small bunkers guard the left side of the landing zone off the tee, while a large bunker fronts the entire putting surface save for the treacherously sloping front left side of the green.

#3 Soaring Hawks

Description:

Number 3 is a great opportunity to card a birdie. Playing to a generous fairway, this hole has a slight dogleg right from the tee. A long, well-placed drive will tempt players into going for the green on the second shot. Two bunkers short and left of the green, and one bunker right of the green will catch wayward approach shots and turn a reasonable birdie hole into a grind for par.

#1 Bridger View

Description:

Starting off the par 36 front nine, number one plays straight from tee to green and lets the golfer swing away with the driver to a generous fairway. A large bunker fronts the green, and, like all the putting surfaces on the front nine, the green slopes in many directions. Stay below the hole on the approach shot for the best opportunity at an opening birdie.
